5 THINGS TO LOOK FOR IN AN AFFILIATE PROGRAM

5 Things I Need as an Affiliate

I've been an affiliate myself for about 6 years now and have been amazed at how things have changed over the years. Nothing can compare with the days of optimizing sites/pages and submitting them by the droves (and don't pretend you didn't) to engines like AltaVista through a rudimentary script...and then watch the top rankings roll in. I surely miss those days, but hey, the competition and growth in the industry has brought a ton of innovation and new ways to make money online (and beyond).
So, I wanted to start off my welcome to you all with something pretty basic, the top 5 things I personally need as an affiliate. Here goes:

An affiliate manager who knows what he/she is talking about.

Listen up you online behemoths, don't expect me to send you traffic when you hire dimwits for me to interface with. I'm taking the risk and hoping you cut me a check at the end of the month, and your affiliate manager clearly reflects how well that will pan out.

Prompt payments

One day an affiliate manager asked me what difference it makes whether they pay me on the 5th of the month or the 15th. Guess what? It's called reinvesting in domain names, PPC costs, new site designs, and back-end programming. How am I supposed to build my online real estate if my tenants don't pay me my rent?

Outside-the-box creativesI don't have a single 468x60 on any of my sites, so why the hell does every program offer a plethora of these creative types? Get creative and start offering your affiliates unique ways to market both online AND offline. Help us market to mobile consumers by investing in your own mobile short code, for example. Utilize AJAX to allow creatives to change on your affiliate's sites on the fly based on user activity. Come on, get with the times.

Geo-targeting & International helpOn some of my sites, the international traffic is upwards of 15%. How can I market to this audience effectively without the right marketing tools for these languages and countries? Merchants need to be much more prudent with the tools, creatives, landing pages, and payment options (both consumer and affiliate) offered to their international audience.

Better personal interaction with my peers

Some of the best ideas I've ever implemented within my sites has been through the advice of other affiliates. I don't think the conferences out there do a good enough job of supporting such activity, nor do the affiliate directories and forums. I'm hoping to fix this problem via some new things we're incorporating here and I would LOVE any feedback on where you guys (meaning affiliates, not managers) think the mark can be raised. I really do want this site to be an extension of myself as an affiliate, so comments are welcome. Or, I can just do what I think is right and hope that everyone is pleased with the outcome.

Tips on Avoiding Internet Business Scams

Internet business scams are growing more numerous and more sophisticated, and they are very hard to recognize from the few legitimate opportunities that are out there. I know this on a very personal level, because I fell for an Internet business scam while I was on break from college. I am not a particularly gullible person and I actually thought I was taking all the necessary precautions to be safe on the Internet. But the thing we all have to remember is that scam artists do not stick to the same scam over and over again. They are inventing new and more sophisticated scams everyday, so they can try to get your money, credit, and confidential information. I wanted to make some extra cash, and working from home seemed like the way to do it. I found a job posting that looked legitimate, which I replied to, asking for more information about the position. I sent in my resume and the company sent a quick response, and described the kind of work I would be doing. The description sounded vague, and then I was surprised to learn that I needed to send money to the company via Pay-Pal in order to cover the cost of training materials. Honestly, this should have set off a red flag, but I was too excited about making some extra money, and the payment they were asking for was a very small amount. To my horror and dismay, the "training materials" I received was nothing more than a file detailing how to continue the scam, putting up job postings, making the job offers, and collecting money from naive people like myself! Needless to say, I demanded my money back, and did a quick investigation via an internet search engine to discover the truth of the matter. Turns out it was a well known internet business scam and I should have known better. But we always think we will know the scam when we are faced with it. Then when we are made an offer that is really too good to be true, we briefly allow ourselves to think it is a scam, before accepting the offer. Instead of falling for scams I have learned to investigate first and agree to offers only after I am satisfied that the company is legitimate. A real company will have no problem with you calling back to place your order at a later date. Don't let yourself fall for the job offer scams or any other scam that will make you loose money. If you ever decide to look into an Internet business opportunity, investigate thoroughly, and do not invest any money into it unless you are absolutely sure that it is legitimate. If they ask you for money up front, chances are it isn't.

Affiliate Marketing Do’s And Don’ts For many of us Affiliate marketing can be a fun and relatively simple way to make a living on the Internet. It has proved to be a very popular business model especially for those who are new to internet marketing to start with as it requires no ‘cold calling’, payment processors, inventory, expensive office space, employees or selling hassles. Yes it takes time. It takes time to build our credibility and trust with our visitors who we want to become buyers and repeat buyers. Moreover, there are some points you need to consider in order to make your path to success as smoothly, as quickly, and as profitably as possible. Create and continue to build your own website. There are two very, very important reasons why this is mega important. Highly relevant and informative content has become more important than ever with the major search engines. However, based on the points I have discussed above, I would suggest that you, at least, think twice before getting involved if you are really serious about making a good, recurring income from the Internet. While you are determining whether to promote any of the following products, plans or schemes, just think Trust and Credibility. Ask yourself, will my readers and visitors thank me if I suggest, promote any of these to them. Ask yourself, do I want the commission from a one-off sale or do I want to keep this customer who can reward me with repeat business… Surveys: Some people do make money but many survey companies do not pay cash, they use other methods to ‘reward’ participants. Also, depending on where your readers live, the availability of regular survey opportunities will be limited. Lotto and Instant Games: If anyone can prove to me right now that have built a sustainable and profitable affiliate marketing business with these, I will add them to my portfolio immediately. Don’t waste your time and money. Online Casinos: Just ask yourself, how do casinos make money? Think of some of the laws now being passed regarding online gambling. Think of the problems a lot of players (or losers) are facing. Will you recommend this ‘opportunity’ to your subscribers?
